Along with your brand new braces, Dr. Cziraki will give you a list of food related instructions, and a list of things not to do with your braces. This last list is worth paying particular attention to, as it will keep your braces and teeth safe.
Maybe you’re a budding scientist, or perhaps you’ve heard takes of people picking up radio signals from their braces. Whatever the likelihood of this experiment working, it’s not advisable to attach an antenna to your braces. The leverage on the antenna can easily damage the braces.
Bottle openers are cheap, and your teeth are priceless. You may have seen people opening bottles with their teeth in perhaps the most inadvisable party trick there is. Braces don’t make this any wiser. Invest in a bottle opener, and keep those bottle caps away from your teeth!
Coloured bands are the preferred method of accessorizing your braces. Never attach metal charms or other jewelry to your braces, those belong on bracelets and necklaces. Putting jewelry in your mouth, even if it seems well secured can lead to chipped teeth following a poorly placed bite or swallowing jewelry.
One thing you can do, contrary to what you may have seen on TV, is kiss someone. The likelihood of braces getting locked together is negligible. However, you should exercise caution to avoid cutting your partner’s lips.
