AMERICAN BOARD OF ORTHODONTICS DOCTOR CERTIFICATION

Founded in 1929, the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) is the oldest and most prestigious specialty board in dentistry. Its aim is to raise orthodontia standards and protect patients from irresponsible and unqualified practitioners.

ABO’S MISSION

  • Evaluate the clinical skills of orthodontic program graduates through exams & time-limited certificates
  • Re-evaluate clinical skills through regular recertification exams
  • Support the development of graduate, postgraduate & continuing education programs in orthodontics
  • Promote certification expertise throughout the world

BECOMING BOARD CERTIFIED

The board certification process can take anywhere from 5-10 years. It entails a rigorous set of written and clinical examinations and a review of the orthodontist’s credentials.

All board-certified orthodontists are peer examined on the basis of their knowledge and clinical skills. Board certification signifies the orthodontist’s continued pursuit of excellence in orthodontics.
