Root Canal Treatment
Tooth pain is a severe hindrance to anyone’s day-to-day life. Eating, sleeping, talking and even keeping focused at home or at work in Vancouver with a damaged root canal or pain nerves in your teeth become consistently unbearable activities.
Whether it be due to extensive tooth decay, a tooth infection, or trauma to the teeth such as an accident, tooth pain and tooth swelling are very real problems for many people. If the damage is widespread enough, sometimes it seems like the only option you might face is a tooth extraction, but then this procedure would result in a gap in your mouth and a possible dental implant or a dental bridge.
But there is another way, an option that could save your natural teeth and reverse the experience of tooth pain and gum swelling! The dental professionals at Clear Advantage Dental & Orthodontic Clinic can provide comfortable and effective root-canal treatment procedures with modern-day dental technology to ensure that the process is as pain-free as possible.
What is a root canal?
Inside each tooth, beyond the hard exterior of the enamel and the semi-soft second layer called dentin, is the soft third layer called the root canal, a passage-way that starts just above the gum line and extends all the way down to the bottom of the root. Inside the space of the root canal are blood vessels and vascularized connective nerve tissues called dental pulp, which provide the teeth with nutrients and also send pain signals and hot and cold sensors between the teeth and the brain.
If the root canal or even just the nerves within it become infected and damaged from decay, a root-canal procedure can save the tooth from extraction, prevent the infection or decay from spreading to other areas of the mouth and relieve the pain you are experiencing.
What are root-canal symptoms?
Common symptoms of a damaged root canal include serious pain in your teeth when performing day-to-day activities like talking or eating, sensations to hot or cold temperatures on the teeth that feel more sensitive than usual, swollen gums and tooth discoloration.
What is involved in my root canal procedure?
After numbing the tooth and the gum area around the infected tooth so you won’t feel any pain, we make a small opening through the outer layer of the tooth, the enamel, to access the root canal. Special instruments are used to then carefully remove the infected and unhealthy dental pulp and parts of the root canal. Finally, we place a filling over the outer layer and later top the tooth off with a natural-looking and natural-feeling crown or cap so you can live your life normally again!
